Dr. Soraya Martín-Suárez
Group Leader
I am a Ramón y Cajal (2021) fellow. My research program focuses on targeting neuroinflammation to preserve neuronal circuit function under conditions of neuronal hyperactivity, with a particular focus on neural network dynamics. I received my PhD in 2018 for a thesis entitled «How aging, seizures and ATP change the intrinsic properties of adult hippocampal neural stem cells» at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). I then moved to BioCruces Bizkaia HRI for a postdoctoral stay supported by a Juan de la Cierva fellowship. In 2022, I returned to ACHUCARRO as an IKUR Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the NeuroBiosciences axis of this strategy.
Jokin Izagirre Barroeta
Predoctoral researcher
Graduate in Biotechnology (UPV/EHU) and holder of a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). During the master’s program, he joined the Neurogenesis, Neuroinflammation and Network Dynamics laboratory, where he began specializing in neuroinflammation and neuronal network dynamics. He is currently pursuing his PhD, focused on the modulation of neuroinflammation as a strategy to preserve neuronal activity in experimental models of epilepsy. His research combines in vivo approaches with imaging analysis techniques and molecular biology tools, aiming to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms that disrupt network function in neurological disorders.
